Renault radio code calculator – unlock your car radio after a battery change
It happens faster than you think: the car battery dies, gets replaced or is briefly disconnected – and suddenly the Renault radio asks for a code you never had or forgot long ago. Without the right Renault radio code the unit stays locked, the display only shows „CODE" and no sound comes from the speakers. What many people don't know: on most older Renault and Dacia radios this code can simply be calculated from the so-called precode – in seconds, online and without an expensive trip to the workshop.
What is the Renault radio code – and what is the precode?
The radio code is a four-digit number stored at the factory as anti-theft protection. When the radio loses power, the lock activates automatically. So a stolen unit can't simply be reused, the radio never reveals the code directly – instead it shows a precode: one letter followed by three digits, for example „A583". The actual Renault radio code is calculated from exactly this precode.
How to find the precode on Renault and Dacia
On classic button radios you hold the station buttons 1 and 6 together for about five seconds – if that doesn't work, try 1 and 5. The display then shows „PRE" with the four-digit precode. Alternatively it's printed on a sticker on the radio housing, which you remove using release keys. On modern touchscreen systems (MediaNav, R-Link, Easy Link) no calculable precode is shown – here only a dealer or database can help.
Which Renault and Dacia models does it work for?
The calculator covers almost the entire button-radio era – including Renault Clio, Mégane, Scénic, Twingo, Modus, Kangoo, Trafic, Master, Laguna, Espace and Fluence. Dacia uses the same radio technology too, so the code can also be calculated for Sandero, Logan, Duster, Dokker and Lodgy. Which model years have a button radio is shown by the calculator right after you select your model.
Get your code in three steps
- Pick your vehicle: select make, model and radio type.
- Enter the precode: type in the letter-and-digit code from the display.
- Get the code: pay €5 and read your finished Renault radio code instantly.
Frequently asked questions about the Renault radio code
What is a Renault radio code?
The Renault radio code is a four-digit security code that protects the car radio against theft from the factory. If the radio is disconnected from power – for example during a battery change – it asks for this code before it plays again.
How do I find the precode of my Renault radio?
On button radios you hold station buttons 1 and 6 (alternatively 1 and 5) for about five seconds until „PRE" and a four-digit precode appear on the display. Alternatively the precode is on a sticker on the removed radio housing.
How much does calculating the radio code cost?
The calculation costs a one-off €5. You only pay after entering your vehicle and precode, and you receive the code immediately afterwards.
How quickly do I get my Renault radio code?
Instantly. Right after payment the code is calculated and shown on the page – no waiting and no appointment at a workshop needed.
Does the calculator also work for Dacia?
Yes. Dacia models such as Sandero, Logan, Duster, Dokker and Lodgy use the same radio technology as Renault. For button radios the code can be calculated from the precode in the same way.
My radio has a touchscreen – can I calculate the code too?
Touchscreen systems such as MediaNav, R-Link or Easy Link are database-bound and cannot be calculated from a precode. Only the Renault/Dacia dealer or a code database can help here.
